Homebuy (formerly Shared Ownership)

A hand holding out a model houseWe offer a range of low-cost home ownership and discounted rental products through a scheme called New Build Homebuy (formerly known as shared ownership).

This allows you to buy an initial share of between 25 per cent and 75 per cent of the property and pay the rest of the value in rent to your landlord. In most cases, you can buy more shares later on, when you can afford it. This is called staircasing.

What is currently available?

We have a number of apartments and two, three and four-bedroom brand new family homes across the Midlands. These are all intermediate rent (discounted market rent), which means that they are typically 20 per cent cheaper or 80 per cent of market rent. Click to see what is available.

What is a Homebuy Agent?

This is a registered social landlord that provides a one-stop-shop for people interested in any of the Homebuy schemes across a specific area. The Homebuy agent will process your application, determine eligibility and will keep your details on a central register, making them available for other housing providers that have Homebuy schemes within your area.

Am I eligible?

Most people tend to be first time-buyers. However, there are other eligibility criteria, such as those whose relationship has broken down, or who have just outgrown their current home. Generally, your total household income should be less than £60,000 a year. You cannot apply if you currently receive housing benefit as the scheme is aimed at applicants who intend to buy their home in the future.

What do I do next?

First, you need to complete an application form. You can get one by calling our Customer First centre on 0300 111 7000 or by visiting the region’s dedicated website at orbithomebuyagents.co.uk and downloading the application. Fill the application form in and return it to Caldmoreaccord, 178 Birmingham Road, West Bromwich, B70 6QG.
